A NEW home has been found for the Telscombe Cliffs post office but the town will still be without the service for at least a month.

There were fears for the future of the post office earlier this year when current sub-postmaster Edward Cresswell resigned as a result of his landlord withdrawing the use of the South Coast Road shop, opposite Telscombe Civic Centre.

But it was announced this week the new post office would form part of the Goodfayre Store in Central Avenue.

Post Office retail line manager Paul Simmonds said: 'We are delighted to realise our commitment to our loyal customers in Telscombe Cliffs so they can continue to access post office services they value and trust.

However, Telscombe post office customers face a journey into Peacehaven or Saltdean while the new post office is prepared. The South Coast Road office closes on February 28 and the new one is not due to open until April at the earliest.

The Mayor Of Telscombe Cliffs, Roy Goodall, said: 'It is going to be extremely difficult for people, especially the many elderly people who can just pop into the post office at the moment. I feel sorry for them but ultimately it will be the best for the town.

A Post Office spokesman said: 'We apologise for the break in service but the new premises are not available until April.
