New homes concern at Fairlight meeting

THE additional housing quota was high on the agenda when Rye MP Amber Rudd updated a packed hall in Fairlight on local issues.

Amber was attending the village’s Annual Parish Assembly last Friday.

Amber said: “It is always a pleasure to report back to local residents about the work I’m doing in Westminster to represent them and the best interests of their communities.

“The main focus of discussion was centred on a current proposal to build additional houses within Rother. I made it very clear that I’ll work closely with local Councillors to ensure the best deal is struck for the residents of Fairight”

A variety of organisations and individuals gave presentations on the work they are doing in Fairlight.

Amber was joined by a number of local representatives including the Leader of Rother District Council Cllr Carl Maynard and local Councillor, Roger Bird.

Amber commented, “I was delighted to hear of so many activities going on in Fairlight. It really is a community that has something for everyone, with over 40 clubs and societies actively running in the village. It was also very encouraging to see the hall so packed with local residents, all of whom were engaging with the issues being discussed”

Parish Council Chairman, Andrew Mier said: “I am always pleased to see Amber Rudd MP at Fairlight events. Coming to the Assembly was a great opportunity for her to learn about just how many active clubs and societies there are in the village and how well they are supported by the local population.

“To give just one example the recent Fairlight Players’ production pulled in a total audience of 450.

“Fairlight has a very active social life and that should be more widely known. I am very grateful to Amber Rudd MP for giving the Assembly the results of her research about the Planning Inspector’s request that Rother double its proposed housing figures. The Parish is now much better informed to deal with this important matter.”
