But owner East Sussex County Council is insisting all bids must include a community facility to replace the existing Tilling Green Community Centre.

County Council leader Keith Glazier believes the plans will help shorten Rye’s long social housing waiting list and provide a new purpose-built facility for residents.

Since November 2010 Rye Partnership has developed a community hub on the land, providing services to the local community and a facility available for hire.

The building provides a home for Rye Partnership, Rother Voluntary Action and Tilling Green Community Association.
