New jobs as business wins £900k airport contract

The 74-strong company scooped a prestigious £900,000 contract to design, manufacture and install a raft of check-in desks for Terminal 2, which is set to open in June.

The £2.5bn infrastructure development is one of the of the largest privately funded construction projects in the UK, with more than 140 UK businesses involved in its construction.

Howard Bros Joinery will have its work showcased on a Global stage with more than 20 million passengers from around the world passing through every year.

The contract fuelled a host of growth and development opportunities for the company by helping to fund a £300,000 capital investment programme, creating three new posts.

Tim Hedges, operations director at Howard Bros Joinery, said: “The project has created the opportunity to hire a process control manager, but it has also been the springboard that has enabled us to push on with our policy of continuous improvement in our quality control processes. Consequently we have created an internal post of quality control manager, and this has allowed us to take on another apprentice this year, which we were not originally looking to do. We are currently in the process of filling this role.

“Also by securing the project, especially in these challenging times, it was instrumental in securing the continued success of the business for both Howard Bros and our own supply chain.”

He added: “Howard Bros Joinery has enjoyed working on the prestigious Heathrow Terminal 2A project, and we are proud of the finished product.

“We are grateful to Heathrow and to the contractor for allowing us to play a part in delivering Terminal 2.”
