New Littlehampton school floods as pipes burst

CLASSROOMS at a new multi-million pound school in Littlehampton have been sealed off after a pipe burst, flooding the rooms this morning (Tuesday, March 26).

Three design and technology rooms inside The Littlehampton Academy’s new £32m building, which officially opened in September, were affected by the burst pipe.

Firefighters from Littlehampton were called to the school, in Fitzalan Road, at 7.34am when the building’s fire alarms triggered.

A spokeswoman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue said that a “large quantity” of water had entered the classrooms.

Officers isolated the electricity supply and set about salvage work in the rooms.

They left the scene at 8.27am.

A spokeswoman from the academy said that it remained “business as usual” with students, who were due to attend lessons in the flooded rooms, now relocated to other areas in the school.

She added that the cause for the burst remained a mystery and that contractors at the school are investigating the incident.
