New Nyewood headteachers hopes to give school the 'want factor'

A Bognor Regis headteacher intends to give his new school the 'want factor'.

Jon Williams wants Nyewood C of E Junior School to be the best it can, he wants the children to enjoy being there and he wants it to be school of choice in the town.

This will enable him to fulfil the promise identified in its latest Ofsted inspection.

As reported in June, lead inspector Mike Burghart said the school's emergence from special measures should be just the start.

Mr Williams said that assessment was spot-on. "A lot of hard work has been done in getting out of special measures. But the effort doesn't just stop there.

"We know we can improve on that and strive to become excellent.

"I know I have made the right choice in coming here. I truly believe I have the best job in the world and look forward to a very exciting future for the school," he said.

Mr Williams has formally introduced himself to parents of the 271 pupils.

He is also getting to know them at the school gate on Brent Road every school day morning and afternoon.

He said: "It enables me to help the children before they even get into the classroom and puts a smile on their face.

"It also allows me to know their parents in an informal way."

Mr Williams has arrived at Nyewood C of E Junior School after 15 years teaching along the West Sussex coast.

His previous job at Flora McDonald Junior School at Littlehampton provides relevant experience for Nyewood C of E Junior.

He arrived at Flora McDonald as its deputy head and took on the head's role in the spring of 2008 after it had emerged from special measures.

He described its latest Ofsted report in the spring as very positive.
