New organist set to pull out all the stops

St Mark's Church in Little Common recently welcomed a new organist and choirmaster - an internationally renowned vocal coach with a reputation for his top-flight conducting and singing.

Hastings resident Robert Aldwinckle used to commute to London each week as part of a full-time job in the City.

His career has taken him to opera houses and other prestigious halls around the world, whilst working with the likes of TV’s Gareth Malone and training Sussex children to sing at Glyndebourne Opera House.

This autumn, he decided to reduce his London commitments and spend more time in his locality. Fortunately for St Mark’s, he heard there was a vacancy for an organist and choirmaster, and contacted the Rector.

Robert said: “When I first visited the church, people were so welcoming and friendly, I immediately felt at home here.

“I am pleased to be working in such a warm and friendly environment.”

The accomplished pianist has also agreed to become the rehearsal and performance accompanist for Bexhill Choral Society.

Bexhill Choral Society’s next performance will be a carol concert for choir and audience, called Rejoice and be Merry, and singers are accompanied by the Cinque Ports Brass Ensemble. This takes place on Saturday December 11 at St Augustine’s Church.

Bexhill Choral Society rehearses in St Martha’s Church Hall in Little Common on Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm and welcomes new members.

St Mark’s Church is now recruiting new choir members. For further information, contact Robert Aldwinckle on 07885 134719.
