A spokesperson for BP told the County Times this week that the new petrol station currently under construction in London Road is set to open to the public before the end of the year.

Proposals were first submitted to Horsham District Council to build a new service area on the land south east of Martins Farm more than ten years ago.

A new application, submitted to the council in July 2014, was approved by councillors back in November.

The plans outline the building of a petrol station including five fuel pump islands and an automated car wash.

A restaurant with drive-through facilities and an ancillary shop were also included in the proposals along with 53 parking spaces.

Signs outside the development state Marks and Spencer will be opening a unit on the site along with BP.

Developer G. Northover and Sons Limited, who are undertaking the project, announced last year both international businesses were interested in the site and said the addition of the retailers would greatly benefit the community.

It also said the project would create around 30 new jobs but did not confirm who would be taking over the restaurant.

The County Times approached the developer for comment but had not received a response before going to print.
