New plan for museum in Bognor Regis takes shape

A business plan is being compiled to see if a new Bognor Regis museum can be created.

Town councillors agreed to hire outside experts to put together the detailed breakdown into the potential 1m project.

The decision was taken on Monday at a committee meeting behind closed doors and made public immediately afterwards at the latest meeting of the council.

Cllr Greg Burt, the policy and resources committee chairman, said: "The business plan will show if the project is viable."

Cllr Paul Wells said: "This is the right way forward. I am still keen that this council delivers a project for this town and for the future."

The Observer revealed last month (December) that the council was considering setting up a museum to replace the current cramped premises occupied by the town's local history society in the High Street.

The proposed premises for the attraction, designed to appeal to residents and visitors alike, would make use of some of the spare space at the railway station.

It is hoped this would bring new life to the important pubic building.
