McCarthy & Stone have submitted a new planning application to Horsham District Council to redevelop the empty Norfolk House, in North Street.

The new five-storey building would house 21 two-bedroom apartments, including a garden area, communal lounge, and 18 parking spaces with access on to Norfolk Road.

This follows a consultation exhibition held by the developer in April when plans for the site were first unveiled.

A spokesperson for McCarthy & Stone said: “We would like to thank those members of the community who took the time to give us their feedback on the proposals, which has helped us to refine and improve our plans before submitting the application.

“We’re very encouraged by the positive local feedback we’ve received and have strived to bring forward a scheme that will make a positive contribution to the character of the Horsham.”

The scheme’s design and access statement says that while the minimum age of occupation is 60 years, with a spouse and partner of 55 years, the typical resident is a widow aged between 74 and 78.
