HEATHFIELD residents celebrated the long awaited opening of their new play area on Sunday, May 29.

The Unity Community Association’s project to plan, develop and raise money for the Leeves Common Play Area took three years to come to fruition.

Residents worked tirelessly to plan the scheme, consult children and adults, lay out proposals and contact groups that might be able to help out with funding.

Thanks to tireless work by chairman George Hedges and his committee, grants were secured from Community Spaces, Heathfield and Waldron Parish and Wealden District councils.

Secretary Anna Batchelor said: “Good fun was had by all on that Sunday, quite interesting at times when the wind nearly blew us away.

“The added attraction of a magician and petanque kept all ages busy. Now the play park is well used by everybody in the local community and it looks terrific too.”
