New police team will help search for wanted and missing people

The team started work this week and is made up of special constables from Sussex Police, who are volunteer officers with the same powers as regular police officers.

The special constables will work to support divisional officers in searching for people who are wanted or missing in West Sussex.

The approach to finding people has already been trialled in Brighton and Hove and is used by the Metropolitan Police.

intendent Lawrence Hobbs said: “This new team will enhance our capability to locate and arrest people who are wanted by us for a variety of differing offences, such as failing to appear at court, failing to answer bail or who are wanted as part of investigations.

“I am especially pleased it will be supported by special constables, who are a very important part of our extended police family.

“From now on, a wanted person in West Sussex should be a little bit more nervous 
and looking over their shoulder, as they will be 
getting a visit from the Manhunt team very soon.”

The team will operate any time of the day or night, on any day of the week, to try to find the wanted people.
