New probe on death junction

THE Highways Agency has become involved in the quest to find a safety solution to Bexhill's death junction.

Rother leader Cllr Graham Gubby last week called on the county highways department to study the accident record at the junction of the A259 Little Common Road with Sutherland Avenue.

In the space of five days, one motorcyclist has been killed in collision with a car there and another seriously injured.

Cllr Gubby said: "I have had a good reaction from the officers of the county council, who have initially conferred with the Highways Agency with a view to some history of the site being gathered, especially the accidents that have occurred in recent years.

"That will obviously take a little while to undertake.

"I have also had a very good discussion with a police officer dealing with one of the recent accidents who was able to say that, without pre-empting the full investigation or the inquest, that it would appear at this stage that there is nothing much that needs to be done to the road junction.

"But that does not mean to say that we won't continue to consider all the options to reduce the risk of further accidents there."
