NEW RULES AT WASTE SITES

A NEW permit scheme will soon be put in place at the county's household waste recycling sites.

At the same time, the height barriers will be opened for a trial period of three months so that high-sided vehicles and vans bringing in household waste will be able to access the sites.

The scheme will mean that any residents using a van or other commercial-type vehicle to bring household waste to a site will need to have a specially issued entry permit.

The aim of the system is to ease congestion and queuing times and, in turn, prevent trade and commercial waste from illegally entering the sites.

Permits will be free and residents will be allocated 12 per year.

They are now available from East Sussex County Council.

The scheme will cover the household waste recycling sites, including those at Crowborough, Hailsham, Hastings, Heathfield, Lewes, Mountfield, Newhaven, Seaford, Uckfield and Wadhurst.
