New school to open Monday - but the building is 260 miles away

RYE Studio School will officially open to students on Monday - even though the new school building is 260 miles away.

Forty-two lorries will transport the pre-fabricated building from Hull to The Grove on Thursday.

The modernist building will include state-of-the-art studio spaces for music, art, textiles and photography plus a cross arts concourse designed to be used for performance, additional photographic studio sets, catwalks and exhibitions.

Downstairs includes a shop and cyber cafe, which will be open to the public.

The 85 students will be based at the Lion Street Centre, Methodist Hall, Community Centre and Rye Club until the new building arrives.

Studio Schools have been designed to equip young people with the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to succeed in life and work.

Studio Schools are a new approach to learning involving enterprise projects and paid work experience. They offer a real alternative to traditional learning and are making a difference to the lives of young people up and down the country.
