New store to bring Sunday opening to Rye town centre

A NEW mini-supermarket in Rye has created new jobs and will be open on Sundays.

The store - a My Costcutter - is the first of it’s kind in England and has created eight new jobs.

It is situated in the Skinner Garage showroom on the A259 Fishmarket Road roundabout,

Skinners boss Gary Barlow explained: “This is a new venture for us and was in direct response to local needs and demands with people wanting to do their groceries on a Sunday.

Cars from the showroom have been moved to a new site nearby across the Monkbretton river bridge, though the garage still has a petrol station filling service.

Gary Barlow explained: “The shop is a My Costcutter which is a more upmarket version of a Costcutter.

“The only other My Costcutter is in Aberdeen and this is the first one to open in England.”

The store has been open for over a week now and Gary says there has been an overwhelmingly positive response from local people.

Many Rye residents were upset when the Budgeons supermarket at Station Approach closed on Sundays after being taken over by Jempsons.

Gary Barlow said: “This definitely meets a much needed local demand.

“I think it will be good for the local economy.

“We have invested £150,000 in this and have had really positive feedback from people since opening.”

The store opens daily from 6am - 10am.

It offers fresh baked bread and hot snacks and also sells newspapers and magazines and has a National Lottery sales point.

Another popular addition is a free ATM cash machine.
