New swimming pool opens at Wick school

CHILDREN in Wick will have the opportunity to learn how to swim from an early age after a brand new swimming pool was opened at their school.

White Meadows Primary School, in Whitelea Road, has now opened its own pool to its 517 children.

Costing £130,000, the pool was built during the summer holidays and is now being used to hold weekly lessons.

Headteacher Louisa Gould said the new pool would help give its pupils ‘life-long skills and aspirations’.

She said: “I am absolutely delighted with our new swimming pool.

“It is a huge investment which will benefit all of the children in our school.

“Living close to the sea, I believe that it is important for the children to learn to swim from an early age.

“This investment will give our children life-long skills and aspiration for the future.”

The school’s children range from nursery age up to year six and all children take part in weekly swimming lessons at the pool.

The pool opened last month and lessons began on November 25, with qualified swimming instructors from Inspire Leisure teaching them.

The lessons are already said to be popular and will be held by the school all year round.
