New televisions welcomed by Rustington patients

BEING able to watch Britain storming to its biggest Olympic medal haul ever on the television almost passed by patients at a Rustington hospital.

Following this year’s digital switch-over, all the televisions at the Zachary Merton Hospital became unusable, much to the despair of patients and staff at the care facility.

However, thanks to the steadfast work of The League of Friends at the hospital, those receiving treatment there can now enjoy this summer’s Olympic Games, on one of 13 new, digital sets.

The light-weight televisions have each been fitted onto a trolley and can be wheeled around the various wards at the site.

Another, larger television was also bought and mounted onto the wall in the day room.

The project cost almost £10,000 and was something that staff felt was worth the cash.

Most of the money was provided by a bequest left by a Rustington resident, who passed away, earlier this year.

A spokeswoman from the hospital said everyone was pleased with the new sets, adding: “The patients are thrilled to have been able to watch the Olympics.”
