New tourist publication to be launched

TOURISM bosses have announced plans to develop a new kind of visitor publication for Rye and the surrounding area.

1066 Country Marketing is inviting businesses from the town and its surroundings to find out more by attending a consultation day next Tuesday (September 18).

Sandy Montgomery, chairman, said: “Part of our agreement with Rother District Council is to produce a visitor guide for Rye and its hinterland.

“In informal discussions between interested parties involved in marketing Rye and its surrounding areas we understand that a guide is being produced by another organisation. After due consideration, we felt it best not to try and duplicate that, which would be wasteful and unnecessary. Instead, building on what we’ve learned from our work elsewhere, we intend producing another kind of publication, which will be appreciated by staying and day visitors to the area.

“It will contain a detailed map, and listings of places of interest to visitors, from accommodation providers to shops, attractions to restaurants.

“We think this will be extremely popular, and will have a print run of at least 250,000. We also know that events, change, so we will initially print 100,000 for the usual pre-Christmas launch, and retain the ability to make further detailed changes e.g. to event listings, before the main summer season, for which we will print another 150,000.”

The publication will be widely distributed within a three-hour travel time of Rye and through the Rye Tourist Information Centre.

Next Tuesday’s event is from 11am to 3pm at the Riverhaven Hotel.

Sandy added: “1066 Country Marketing is absolutely committed to marketing the Rye area and ensuring that it gets the most from the visitor economy. We think that this new publication will prove to be invaluable to visitors, and the local businesses listed in it.”
