New Year's Day fun run launches 100 Club's anniversary year

THE Bexhill 100 Motoring Club entered its 10th anniversary year in fine form with a well-supported New Year's Day fun run.

Two dozen cars, many of them classics, took part in the event, won by Roger Butler in his MG Midget.

Armed with maps, pictures and clues, participants found they had to pit their wits against those of the oranisers and not only find solutions but work out the shortest way round what proved to be a 45-mile course.

With a tie on a points basis, Roger won the 50 MoT voucher prize donated by Just MoTS on his mileage.

From the De La Warr Pavilion car park, the New Year course took teams to Hollington, Crowhurst, Netherfield, Mountfield, Brightling and Dallington to a coffee stop at Three Cups Corner.

The second leg took participants through Waldron, Heathfield, Hailsham and Westham to Pevensey where The Smugglers Inn had a three-course lunch ready for them.

The ingenious fun run took in 14 East Sussex churches. Clues were set out in rhyme and song.

The churches were identified by photograph - but the destinations were in anagram form.

The lunch-time raffle produced 130 and covered the cost of staging the fun run.

The third annual fun run has already given members a thirst for future ventures. In addition to the annual August show in Polegrove, the anniversary year calendar includes a summer treasure hunt.
