A Century by the Sea: Newhaven in Painting, is proving extremely popular and the organisers are thrilled with how it has been received.

Sarah O Kane, festival co-ordinator said: We have seen record crowds and it s exceeding all our expectations.

The exhibition, which runs until September 23, is a rare opportunity to view the town through the eyes of top British and local artists.

Sarah said: It s highlighting the fact that we have a very artistic community living and working in Newhaven. Much of the work is by fisherman and townspeople who turned to painting in later life, so there is a real sense of history.
