NEWHAVEN Football Club is now the proud owner of 1,000 seats on the perimeter of the football pitch at Fort Road Recreation Ground in Newhaven.
Lewes District Council took quick action to help the football club obtain the seating.
Lead councillor at the district council Andy Smith said: “When we heard at short notice that the seats were available the legal team pulled out all the stops to get a suitable licence drawn up and agreed with the club.
“The licence agreement is for six months and is conditional upon planning permission being granted. We will consider a longer term solution during this period.”
Secretary of Newhaven Football Club John Carpenter said: “The seats originally came from the Withdean Stadium.
“But fortunately a local sponsor (Trafalgar Group) was able to purchase them from Whitehawk FC for us.
“We appreciate the work undertaken by Lewes District Council in getting the legal paperwork and licence agreement drawn up so quickly and look forward to working with them to make further improvements at the ground.”
The agreement covers all the usual clauses where land is occupied on a temporary basis - including insurance and indemnity provisions, repair and replacement obligations, and health and safety requirements.
