CONCERNS people were trapped by the tide at Seven Sisters prompted Newhaven Lifeboat to issue a warning to check the tide times before setting out.

The volunteer crew was called out by Birling Coastguards on Sunday August 26 at 5.43pm worried three people were in trouble.

Newhaven’s lifeboat the RNLB David and Elizabeth Acland immediately prepared its smaller Y boat for launch.

Once on scene the lifeboat searched from Cuckmere to Birling Gap and back but did not find anyone cut off.

The lifeboat then returned to station at 6.54pm.

Second coxswain Lee Blacknell said: “We would always advise members of the public to check the tide times before setting out on a coastal walks, and if they do get into difficulty, to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
