Volunteers from Newhaven’s RNLI Lifeboat Station were launched on Wednesday January 8 at 4.02am to a 12m commercial fishing boat with nets snagged around its propellers, seven miles south of Newhaven.

When Newhaven’s Severn Class Lifeboat David and Elizabeth Acland arrived on scene the fishing vessel had already cut the nets away.

A tow line was passed to the fishing boat which had three people on board.

Newhaven Lifeboat’s volunteer crew then towed the vessel into the safety of Newhaven Harbour.

The fishing vessel was placed on the north end of the marina fuel barge.

Newhaven Lifeboat returned to Lifeboat Station at West Quay and was ready for service at 9.38am.
