Newhaven teens arrested after 'vicious' weapons are seized at train station

Two teenagers have been charged with possession of a bladed article after 'vicious' weapons were confiscated at Newhaven Town train station yesterday (Monday, March 28).

Police officers from British Transport Police (BTP) and Sussex Police were called to the station at around 5.30pm yesterday (Monday, March 28) following reports of two men carrying a knife on board a Southern train heading to Newhaven.

Officers met the train at the station and seized the two weapons - a cleaver and a knife - before arresting two people.

A British Transport Police (BTP) Spokesperson said: “Officers from BTP were called to Newhaven Town station at approximately 5.30pm on Monday, 28 March following reports of two men carrying a knife on board a train service.

“Officers from BTP and Sussex Police attended and two knives were discovered.

“Ryan Fry, 19, and Jordan Richards, 19, both of St Andrews Court, Newhaven, have been charged with possession of a bladed article and will attend Brighton and Hove Magistrates court on April 28.”

BTP posted a photo of the confiscated weapons on its Twitter account, with the caption: “These two vicious weapons are off the streets thanks to @sussex_police & @btp working together to keep you safe.”
