Newhaven woman dies in multi-car crash on A23

A Newhaven woman has died after a serious, multi-car collision on the A23 this morning (Monday, January 11).

Police are appealing for witnesses following the fatal crash, which happened near Pyecombe services at around 4am

Four vehicles were involved: a blue Volkswagen, a black BMW, a black Mitsubishi and a blue Renault.

Sadly the driver of the Renault, a 21-year-old woman from Newhaven, was declared dead at the scene. There were no other serious injuries.

The northbound carriage was closed while recovery work took place and a diversion was set up via the A281. The A23 fully reopened at around 10.30am.

Sergeant Peter Verney said: “We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen what happened just prior to the collision.

“Witnesses can email [email protected] or call 101 quoting Operation Entwine.”
