NHS competition success for Felpham students

A group of Year Nine students from Felpham Community College are currently celebrating their achievement with the national competition Step into the NHS.

The competition, is open to students across the county in Years Eight and Nine, looks at promoting the wide variety of careers within the NHS. Students were required to choose a career that interests them and create a job description and an advert to publicise it.

More than 2,000 students entered the competition nationally.

Paul Latham, Alexandra Holland, Courtney Rogers and Amber Macrae, all did exceptionally well and received certificates for their highly commended work.

Paul, Alexandra and Amber are 14, and Courtney is 13.

Paul chose to do a poster on being a prosthetic technician, Courtney and Amber created an animation about becoming a biomedical scientist, and Alexandra made a video on midwifery.

Susan Buckland, teacher of science who co-ordinated the entries, said: “The students did really well. They chose a variety of means of media to promote their careers and they put in a lot of effort with their entries. The science department were very impressed with the level of work they produced and the career knowledge they showed. Well done!”

Amber Macrae said: “I want to be a marine biologist or biomedical scientist when I leave school. There are over 350 careers within the NHS and this was a great competition to promote them. We researched the career and then devised a job application and presentation (which Courtney and I did as an animation). It went well working with Courtney as she wants a career in animation. It was good fun taking part.”
