Well, Half Term is over.. and Easter is only 5 weeks away!: Spring is trying to spring up from soggy ground; but whatever the weather, it's the time for all things New, in all sorts of different ways. The Memorial Hall has had the next phase of it's refurb completed; a freshly sanded Stage, new sound boarding, and soon to be finished curtains... The proud re-build of Sparke Pavilion, keeps rising and shining in the weak spring sunshine... and The Carnival Meeting HAD 5 NEW MEMBERS!! Hussah! Now, I did say '˜watch this space'.. so, here's the latest update! The date and theme for this Summer's Carnival in Ninfield have been decided; Saturday 16th July and '˜From Shakespeare to Showbiz'...a nod to the 450th anniversary of Wills birth and also to the success of the Theatre/Film Musical ( Brilliant...and NOT influenced or voted for by me...Honest!) .There's lots of scope for some fantastic floats to be created, with the procession to be led by The Carnival Queen and her Court. It is hoped that some of the Ninfield entrants will also join the Bexhill Carnival, 2 weeks later. All the usual attractions and events will be in place, with lots of surprises, and some favourite competitions- The Dog Show and - new!- A Dog/Handler Agility Course..!!..plus the Tractor Pull and Tug-o-War, for a start!. But the first event for the Carnival Committee will be the Annual Pram Race; held on May Bank Holiday Monday - 2nd May- Again the Wacky Races will take place in Manchester Road, with BBq and Betting, Fancy Dress, Cash Prizes and Fun. June sees a special extra event with the celebrations for H.M Queen's 90th Birthday weekend on 11th and 12th June. Lovely Carol Holland, Bonfire Society stalwart, and I will be joining together again- as per the Diamond Jubilee- to hopefully put together some fun and interesting items for everyone to join in- and the Carnival Committee are hosting an Afternoon Tea with Cabaret for all over 60's in Ninfield, in the Memorial Hall, on the Sunday 12th. So, loads to do...and lots to look forward

Ninfield Working Men’s Club: Thanks are due to Marjorie Sharp for the following! There will be a presentation evening at the Working Men’s Club, Bexhill Road, on Saturday 27th February at 8.30pm when the Committee will hand over a cheque for £1,500 to the Charity of their fundraising year; Chestnut Tree House - the Children’s Hospice for East and West Sussex. This fantastic amount was raised by Coffee Mornings, table sales and events throughout the year, all of which have been well supported. The fundraising doesn’t stop, with the Charity for the upcoming year being St Michaels Hospice; and the first Coffee morning/Table sale being on the 22nd March, 10 am-12 midday. If anyone has unwanted gifts or anything to donate, please take up to the Club, or give Marjorie a call on 892239, or Maureen on 892182.

Hooe Open Group: Here’s Edna’s report from the last gathering of the Ladies in Hooe!- 25 members enjoyed the meeting, which had a presentation from the Eastbourne franchise holders of Wiltshire Farm Foods. The company was originally established in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, over 25 years ago, and the speakers for this presentation explained how the pre-prepared food is made and frozen there, then dispatched to the local distributors. The customer orders their meal, and within half a day it is prepared for delivery. All diets are catered for, even particular allergies, and, due to the stringent quality controls, are guaranteed to be free from any form of bacteria. After the demonstration, club organiser Edna Wallis thanked the presenters and called for the top quality Raffle to be drawn.The next meeting of the Open Group will be on Friday 11th March and new members are always welcome to this friendly, social afternoon. Neighbourhood Watch Police Panel Meeting: Rod Ffoulkes has sent the details for the next meeting which is on Tuesday 23rd February at 7pm in the Reading Room, Church Lane. It is anticipated that PCSO Daryl Holter will be on hand to update everyone on local police matters. PCSO Holter is also the official contact for problems in the Countryside, looking out for wildlife and rural property throughout our area. These gatherings of Neighbourhood Watch are always of interest, with important information given out on all relevant matters, including how to spot and report the latest scams. Ninfield is very lucky to have Rod and the team co-ordinating such a vibrant and active Neighbourhood watch scheme, please go and find out more! Entry to the meeting is free and there will be tea and coffee available. Call Rod on 893635 for more information.

Ninfield Methodist Church: Has it’s next Messy Church for young people and families on Wednesday 24th February from 3.30pm - 5.30pm. The theme this month will look at life in Cuba and include all sorts of creative activities, a short celebration and a meal for children and parents. Do go along if you can for this very special event and fun time together.

Ninfield Flower Group: Many thanks to Betty Keen for the following heads up! An early alert for the next floral demonstration at the Memorial Hall! This will be on Monday 7th March at 7.30pm.. actually it’s only two weeks time!!...and the Flower Group will be welcoming Christine Nash with her displays entitled ‘Easter Awakening’. Non-members are always welcome to go to these fantastic evenings, the entry is £4 and includes all refreshments. All the beautiful flowers used for the demonstration are raffled off at the end of the evening, so no waste, just extra appreciation!. Allotments, Gardens etc: Now is the time to get those garden tools out, give them a polish and start sorting the seeds and cuttings for this summer’s produce and flora! There are allotments available in Ninfield if you want to go that one step further, call Phil Ringrose, or me, for more details. It’ll soon be the season for fetes and fairs, jams and juices.. You could be the winner on one of those stalls!
