NINFIELD U18S FOOTBALL: The game on October 4 against Tunbridge Wells Youth Hawks was called off as the opposition didn’t have enough players. This should have afforded the team an automatic win however, the last I heard the game was as ‘postponed‘ and thus would not reflect the points for a default win to take them into the second round against Uckfield. I am sure that the club will have an update shortly. The club’s upcoming fixtures are as follows, where your support will always be welcome:

October 18, home against Tunbridge Wells Foresters Spitfires at Ninfield Recreation Ground, 10.30 a.m. KO.

November 1, away to Cranbrook Town Juniors at Big Side, Cranbrook School, 10.30 a.m. KO.

HOOE OPEN GROUP:The Hooe Open Group (Ladies Club) met on the afternoon of Friday, October 9 at Hooe Village Hall. The guest speaker was our Member of Parliament, Huw Merriman.

Huw told of his background and how he was able to rise from humble beginnings to qualify as a barrister, before entering politics, being lucky enough to be selected to contest the Battle & Bexhill Seat after the retirement of Greg Barker, he having been elevated to the Upper House.

The members where informed of the projects that Huw will focus on over the next five years and hopefully well beyond.

There are a number of very important projects, now in the planning stage, with the intention of improving employment opportunities and infrastructure; these are focused on attracting companies to choose Rother, Bexhill and Battle in particular, to accommodate their future business development.

Already in the late stages of coming to fruition is the building of affordable housing in north east Bexhill, which is on land that has been opened up by the building of the Bexhill to St Leonards Relief Road, this includes a light- industrial estate.

Looking further into the future there is the possibility of the High Speed (HS1) train service to London St Pancras terminating at Bexhill, with journey times to London cut by 40 minutes.

Another project, high on the list of priorities is a road connection from the end of the relief road to the A21 and beyond.

Huw will put pressure on the appropriate arms of government in support of these projects, which are seen to be of benefit to the residents and business development within our area. However he needs your support to succeed, by residents and businesses lobbying Government for issues that are seen as positive for our area, directed towards the enhancement of our prosperity and wellbeing.
