HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: On June 18, 30 members and friends spent a sunny afternoon in Andrew and Paula Smith’s lovely garden. As well as admiring the wonderful roses, the group enjoyed a quiz and a delicious strawberry cream tea. Thanks are extended to their hosts and to Sue for organising the afternoon. The next Horti event is the Summer Show on August 15. Please put the date in your diary and start to plan your entries. Schedules are in the village stores.

ARTHRITIS RESEARCH UK: Thank you all who supported the Open Gardens and Cream tea event in June! You helped to raise £230! David and Esme showed an immaculate garden full of interesting plants....Tony and Beryl Harmer showed their interesting garden, in a beautifully maintained state. How do they grow vegetables with all plants growing to the same size at the same time? Donations of home baking meant that all comers could have a leisurely tea in the Methodist Hall. Smooth service from Joyce Allen and John Cheshire kept all going well. The rent was donated to save expenses being deducted from the takings, which was a kind thought. The Raffle well patronised. Thanks to the organisation by Pat Ffoulkes the Bring and Buy stall goods sold well, and made even more for the cause.

NINFIELD LOCAL HISTORY GROUP: Their recent meeting on June 18 was really excellent with their speaker, Tony Harris, who came as HenryVIII in full costume and acting the part. He went through Henry’s life in character and with many little diversions of an amusing nature. They then had a cup of tea while he changed into civvies and answered questions about Henry and how he came to be doing the performance. Apparently he acted the part of Henry VIII at Hampton Court to provide information and entertainment to the visitors and was well trained in the life of Henry. During the time he lived in Hampton Court, two years, he told us of the ghostly happenings he had experienced whilst there. The whole evening was very entertaining and those who attended were very glad they had not missed it. Their next meeting is on Thursday, July 16, when Ian Gledhill will be talking on ‘Oh we do like to be beside the seaside’ which I am assured will be another evening not to be missed. For more information, please contact Rod Ffoulkes: [email protected].

NINFIELD BOWLS CLUB: The club’s Ladies Invitation held on Friday, June 19, went very well. Thye had 10 teams of 3 ladies, including their own team, and the winners were Peasmarsh with Hellingly the runners. Captain Vic Lawrence presented the winners with the trophy and the runners up received a small figurine on a stand which they keep. They had lovely weather and halfway through the match we had tea - sandwiches/scones and cakes. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon and the tea which Ninfield ladies always seem to excel themselves with in any of these events. The latest league game scores are: June 17, Ninfield 71 Battle 80, June 21 Ninfield beat Staplecross as they did when they played the visually sited at Hastings on June 20.
