Arthritis Research: 0ver £220 was raised for Arthritis Research UK by those attending the recent Open Garden at Barn Cottage, and Tea Party at Campions, Standard Hill on Saturday, August 23. Thanks go to all the Supporters and helpers! They were fortunate in having a fine day before the onslaught of rain afterwards. The Stall was well patronised, mainly due to generous and varied donations. The bakers of scones and cakes for the Cream Tea are to be congratulated, as their wares were much appreciated.

Ninfield Bowls Club: A good week was had by Ninfield Bowls Club. On August 27, they played against Fairlight, winning 76-53. A further win was had on August 30 when they played Hastings Visually Handicapped, winning 55-36. They always enjoy the games with the local teams and it is amazing how they are able to play and reach the Jack with 2 of their players (1 each end) with walkie talkies explaining from one end to the other where the bowls are compared to the Jack i.e. 10 0’clock or 12.15 . Although it was very windy at the White Rock members enjoyed the afternoon. On Sunday, August 31, they had their competition for the Scrivens Cup. Mr Scrivens donated 4 silver gioblets some years ago and they have been won by 3 or 4 members of the leading team, which this year was very close. The winners had 33 points second had 32 points and the 3rd team had 30 points with many lower scores of the seven teams taking part (28 members). This started at 10.30 a.m. this morning finishing at 5 p.m. with a ploughmans lunch. Luckily the weather was kind to them and although very weary, thy all enjoyed the day.

Cafe Family Service: Ninfield Methodist Church invites you to its Café Church Family Service this Sunday, September 7. The theme of the service will be ‘Why Worship God’ and include Children’s activities and breakfast. They look forward to seeing you at 10.30 a.m.

Neighbourhood Watch: The next Neighbourhood Watch and Panel meeting will be on Tuesday, September 9, 7.30 p.m. at the Reading Room. The speaker will be Stephanie Smith, Sussex Police’s ‘Finds and Liason’ officer. She will be talking about anything of value that has to be declared and the process involved. The team will also be showing a DVD regarding scam mail and it’s problems. All are welcome, you do not have to be a Neighbourhood Watch Member to take part. Tea and Biscuits will also be available.

Hooe Open Group: Hooe Open Group are next meeting on September 12, 2.30 p.m. If you are interested in joining a very friendly and jolly group of ladies, who enjoy each other’s company, why not go along to Hooe Village Hall on the second Friday of the month at 2.30 p.m., you will be made very welcome. Ninfield History Group: Ninfield Local History Group are not meeting during August. Their next meeting is on September 18, 7.30 p.m. at the Methodist Church Hall. This months talk is ‘Mad jack Fuller’ with Geoff Hutchinson. Hooe History Group: The Hooe History Society next meet on Thursday, September 18 at 7.30 p.m. in Hooe Village Hall. During the last two years their committee member, Andy Hamblin, has been completing the research of the history of his property. He has now an almost complete history of over three hundred years. The detail includes the building and those who have lived there and their occupations. Andy started his research from scratch and had to learn how to carry out the work by trial and error. Now he knows how to do it, he is prepared to share what he has learnt along the way. So, the Hooe History Society invites you to come along on September 18 to learn how you can start your own research! Andy has prepared a comprehensive presentation and will be on hand to give advice and answer questions. Andy will also be bringing his home’s ‘time line’ to the meeting. So even if you are not sure if you want to try researching your own property you will find his history, which fits well into the general history of the village, fascinating. Appalachia Music: The Whitetop Mountain Band, from Virginia USA, are coming to Ninfield, courtesy of Bluegrass Plus Club, on September 20. They will be playing Appalachia music (traditional music of the region of Appalachia in the Eastern United States). The evening will also feature Alive and picking. The venue is Ninfield Memorial Hall, 8-11 p.m., tickets are £12 per person. There is a limited number of tickets. Car Boot Sale: There will be a car boot sale at Ninfield Working Mens Club on September 21 as part of their Charity Fun Dog Show (see below). Pitches are £5 each but are limited, thus first come first served. To book your pitch, please call Maggie on 844536.

Dog Show: Ninfield Working Men’s Club is holding a Charity Fun Dog Show on September 21. Entry Fee £1.00 per class. Arrival Time:12.00 p.m. Judging Starts:1 p.m. Pedigree & Novelty Classes. Ninfield of the Past: On September 27, Ninfield Local History Group are having ‘An afternoon of Local History’ in the Memorial Hall with a slide show of Cyril Wells’ photographs and ‘An Illustrated Talk On Shops And Businesses’, with light refreshments available. First Responders: The Bexhill & District Community First Responders, who cover Bexhill, Ashburnham, Ninfield, Catsfield, Crowhurst, Hooe , Whydown & Normans Bay, will be meeting on Wednesday, October 1.
