The latest results from Ninfield Bowls Club are: July 24, they played St John’sMead, Eastbourne, losing 57-89. They lost again on July 25 against Rye with e score of 52-78. With 29 points in hand against Hampden park on July 26 saw Ninfield win 91-62. On July 28, playing Gullivers, they lost 87-76. Saturday July 27, Ninfield held their Presidents Day where they held mixed competitions for Roundheads and Cavalier teams. The victors were the Cavaliers. Following their matches, the club had a barbecue before the heavens opened!

The next phase of work at the Memorial Hall is underway. Volunteers from the 1st Ninfield Scouts, Youth Forum, Village Society, Bonfire Society and Hall Committee set to and removed all of the internal panelling. It is now up to the professionals to seal, batten and insulate the walls before they can be boarded out. This will then allow for the new electrical sockets and radiators to be fitted, then it will be back to the volunteers to decorate. Local mum, Lorna Tomasetti, has been training hard to participate in Ride London 100 on Sunday, August 4. This is a new race billed as the London Marathon for bikes, which is hoped to be a legacy to the Olympic Games. Her challenge is to complete a 100 mile route around London (including the Surrey hills) in under 9 hours. She has taken up this challenge to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital, as her youngest son has had a number of operations there. Hooe’s Old Motor Club is holding their 44th annual Car Show on the Hooe Recreation Ground (situated between Pevensey and Ninfield on the B2095) on Sunday August 4, from 11am to 5pm. There are classes for cars from the turn of last century until 1970. Informed commentary is provided in the main ring on the various vehicles together with the prestigious “lady and car” competition in which ladies dress to match the age and spirit of the car. There will be a plethora of stalls, not all motoring related, refreshments and a musical entertainment provided by The Hooe Silver Band. With plenty going on it makes for a great day out. Admission, which includes a programme, is £5 for adults (Children under 16 free). Car parking in the new improved car park is free. Money raised is distributed amongst local charities. The next Hooe History Society meeting will be a little different. Originally the society thought that there wouldn’t be an August meeting, but that idea was soon changed due to popular demand. Therefore, on Thursday August 8, they will be congregating in The Red Lion Car Park at the earlier time of 7pm ready to enjoy a short but interesting walk around Hooe. The properties in Hooe have individual histories of their own. Much of this history will be revealed during the walk, and they are sure those who go along will have extra stories to tell. The walk has been researched and will be led by Marjorie Colclough, who will be delighted to see you. Starting and finishing on The Red Lion Car Park and lasting about an hour it is no surprise to learn that the evening will finish in the pub! So if you can’t make the walk please meet at 8ish in the pub when the conversation about the history of our buildings is bound to continue. Hooe Open Group meet on Friday, August 9, which will be at Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne. The members will take a 40 minute round the harbour trip on the “African Queen”. This will be followed by a Danish pastry tea at the nearby Simply Italian cafe. If you are interested in joining a group of very friendly ladies, why not drop in at Hooe Village Hall at 2.30pm on the second Friday of the month (Except August) or call Edna Wallis on 01424 842591.

Birch Holt Residential Home invites you to their Summer Garden Fete on August 17, 1-5pm. Along with craft, book, sweets and plant stalls, there will be a tombola and grand raffle. There will also be a ‘guess the name of the caterpillar’ which has been made by the Birch Holt activities group. All are invited for a fun afternoon with all proceeds going to Age UK and St Michael’s Hospice.

Ninfield Horticultural Society’s summer show is on Saturday August 17 in the Memorial Hall. This is usually a big, colourful event with lots to see. The society would like to see as many entries as possible form the village, entry forms are available from the village post office. Ninfield Flower Group are holding a flower festival entitled A Festival of Festivals, August 24 - August 26. The festival will be held at Ninfield memorial Hall, 10.30am-5pm daily. Entry is £2/person with proceeds going towards The Sara Lee Trust along with a donation going to the Memorial Hall. There will be refreshments, a raffle, tombola, plant stall, crafts and other items. The group looks forward to welcoming you.
