Ninfield and Hooe

THIS WEEK: The May-Pole, The Solstice, Morris Dancing and of course the now famous, and completely exhausting, EU Hokey Cokey. For the last 10 days or so, we've been in, out then shaken all about. Jazz hands were added, then new directions and shapes, even the participants on each side changed; but, however exhilarating the movements, I'm afraid there is always an anti-climax when the choreography hasn't got a strong, definitive end position. Unfortunately, no Tadaah, it's all still a bit blurry round the edges. Still, in true British fashion, if something is going to happen in this country it's going to be something completely out of the ordinary, something monumental and something that will have the rest of the world talking about us for years. We're now really getting into all the fantastic summer sports events. Wimbledon is halfway through, the Rio Olympics are on their way and firstly we've got the finals of football's European Cup.

FLOWER GROUP: Ninfield Flower Group are holding their next meeting on Monday at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall and there will be a demonstration by Iris Shaw entitled Facets of my Life. Non-members are always made very welcome at a small charge of £4 which includes all refreshments. All the flowers used in the demonstration are raffled at the end of the evening, so there is never any waste, just the added bonus of some beautiful blooms to take home. Monies raised throughout the year are put towards the Bi-Annual Flower Show and the chosen charities, please call Jennifer on 892878 for more information or email midfield@gmail .com

COFFEE MORNING: Ninfield Working Men’s Club will be having a Charity Coffee Morning and Table Sale on Tuesday at 10am to midday, in the Wriggly Tin Hut, Bexhill Road. There will be lots of goodies and bargains to buy on the day. If you have any unwanted bits and bobs that you fancy donating please call Marjorie on 892239, or Maureen 892182, they can arrange to pick up for you. All money raised will go to their chosen charity for the year, St Michael’s Hospice, so do go and have a cuppa and a chat, they will be very pleased to see you and it’s a great opportunity to join up with the lovely team that keep The Tin firmly on the map.

CARNIVAL ASSOCIATION: On Wednesday there is another meeting of the committee and friends, to discuss the arrangements for the three days of fun and freneticism that is the Ninfield Carnival. With just over two weeks to go lists are getting longer, with items hopefully being crossed off too, but it always seems quite daunting at this stage. Volunteers are always extremely welcome, embraced and revered so if anyone can give time and man-power on Friday July 15 from 9am, at any point through to the last bit of breakdown which will be lunchtime on Sunday July 17, please make yourself known via the contacts on this column. Now is the time again for baking cakes. The tea tent will be very grateful for any cakes, buns or pastries that are donated. Enter the Ninfield Best Baker competition that will be running again from the smaller marquee, see posters for more details or call me. There will be a Big Boot Fair on site which is being organised by 1st Ninfield Scout Group who can’t do their usual jumbles sales at the Memorial Hall, so all your old jumble will be very much needed for their event on Saturday July 16 on the Rec. Please come and join us for a cheap drink on Wednesday at the club 8.30pm, it would be great to see you.

PARISH COUNCIL: The next meeting is on Thursday at 7.15pm in the Methodist Hall, Church Lane and all residents are encouraged to come and hear all the latest updates. There is a lot going on so, whatever your particular interest, there’s bound to be something that will grab your attention and get you fired up. Things that will definitely be discussed are the latest news on the Issues and Options document with the proposed housing numbers from WDC; the state of the building in the layby opposite the garage which the parish council has complained bitterly about; the development at Ingrams, and what is expected next; plus Highways, footpaths and the school. Please come along and have your input, there is always an amount of time set aside for public questions. BOWLS CLUB: On Wednesday June 22 the club had a Rother League match against Battle, with Ninfield winning 64 -61 and gaining six points on the table. Last Sunday saw another league match against Staplecross with the result being Ninfield 64 again but Staplecross won on 79; Ninfield still picked up four points for the league. Friday June 24 was the Ladies Invitation, which was started three years ago by captain Vic Lawrence and sees teams of three ladies taking part. Clubs from Hellingly, Westfield, Polegrove, Bexhill, Peasmarsh, Fairlight, Herstmonceux and Winchelsea took part with two teams from Ninfield. Nine ends were played both before and after tea, which was a full cream tea made by the non-playing lady members from Ninfield. Good weather helped everyone enjoy the day and the eventual winners were Hellingly Ladies who took the Cup. Ninfield B team were runners up. Thank you Carole and well done again.
