Ninfield and Hooe

CONGRATULATIONS: To Her Majesty on her Official 90th Birthday. It must be rather fun to have two celebratory days you could pick which one you fancy making the day each year and if, like me, your real birthday is in the depth of January just after Christmas and in no daylight, then a summer birthday is a very good idea indeed. The slight drawback is would one really become two years older then, year on year? Actually, there is one person I knew who had two birthdays and that was my grandpa, January 16 and 18, 1908 and that, apparently, was purely due to his parents forgetting to register him until two days after his birth. So, to all who are celebrating this weekend, be it your real birthday, your extra birthday or joining in HM's Birthday Party, have a fabulous time and enjoy being part of another chapter in History.

LOCAL HISTORY GROUP: Many thanks to Rod for the following: The next meeting is on Thursday and local lass Leah Fusco will be giving a talk on the Medieval Village of Northeye, which should come as an interesting contrast to the talk recently given on the Prison at Northeye. The meeting starts at 7.30pm in the Methodist Hall, Church Lane. £3 for visitors and £1 for members. This includes refreshments, teas, coffees and biscuits. If you would like to become a member of the history group, a year’s fee is only £10. Please contact Rod for any further information ken.ffoulkes@which .net or call 893635.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: At the recent Panel Meeting, PCSO Racheal Scott warned about cold callers and advised against allowing these chance traders to do work in your homes. If you need work done, try and find local references with friends and neighbours, look in the Parish Magazine or go to the Checkatrade directory. This can be obtained from the Police Station, or if anyone would like to access further information, call Rod Ffoulkes on 893635.

METHODIST CHURCH: As part of HM Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebrations, Ninfield Methodist will be remembering Special Days and their own 145th Birthday. Tomorrow, Saturday, from 1pm to 4pm they will be serving delicious cream teas from the church hall, the young people will also be able to join in games and face painting activities and there will be a bring and buy sale ongoing throughout the afternoon. On Sunday they will host a United Special Day’s Celebration Service from 10.30am to 11.30am which will be led by Revd Tricia Williams. The weekend at the church will also include a gifts/donations opportunity to help towards the redecoration of the inside of the church which is now looking great.

NINFIELD BONFIRE SOCIETY: There will be a meeting at the Working Men’s Club on Wednesday at 8pm where details of their next big events will be discussed and finalised. The Proms and Gig, now a firm favourite in Ninfield’s calendar are booked for Friday and Saturday, July 29 and 30 respectively, with East Sussex Concert Band leading the Proms and seven different bands playing from 2pm on the Saturday Gig. Tickets are already flying out the door, so please get yours quickly £10 adults in advance, children £5. Tickets bought on the day are £12 and £6. If you’d like to find out more about what the bonfire society do, then do go along on June 15, you’ll be made very welcome.

BOWLS CLUB: Thanks Carole again for the latest results and news, and although there were no wins this week, the club still received four league points. On Wednesday last there was a Rother League match in and against Winchelsea, and the first major problem was the weather. Rain, wind, mist all made the going terrible, and many had difficulty reaching the Jack because the ground was waterlogged! After Tea all dried out a bit, and the score was Ninfield 59 Winchelsea 82. Saturday’s home match against Rye was better, with the scores ending at Ninfield 68 Rye 73. But all enjoyed a fabulous afternoon with good company. At time of writing I’m hoping for the results of Sundays Quarter Final match for the mixed pairs, hopefully interesting and successful.

PARISH CHURCH: Sunday, St Oswald’s Church Hooe, Combined Parish Eucharist 10am.
