Ninfield and Hooe

BRIEF ENTRIES: Lots of brief entries for this week. At time of writing it's just before the early morning set up time for all Carnival Committee members, at the Blacksmiths Inn car park, for the Bank Holiday Monday Pram Race, we're praying for a good turnout in good weather. I'll let you know how it all went at the end of the column, probably at about midnight.

NINFIELD FLOWER GROUP: On Monday, 7.30pm at the Memorial Hall, the flower group will welcome Patricia Bashford and her demonstration entitled Design Focus. As always, non-members are welcome at a small charge of £4, which includes all refreshments. All flowers used in the demonstrations are raffled at the end of the evening, and all proceeds go towards the flower groups’ big displays and their chosen charities for the year. If you would like more information, please call Jennifer on 892878 or email [email protected]

CHRISTIAN WOMEN’S FELLOWSHIP: Will meet on Wednesday, 2.30pm at the Methodist Church Hall in Church Lane and there will be a Welcome to Sandra. Everybody is invited to attend.

MESSY ACTIVE TEENS: On Wednesday from 5pm to 7pm, the Messy Active Teens group from the Methodist Church will be holding a Bluebell Woods Walk. All are welcome to join them for a lovely early evening stroll.

CARNIVAL ASSOCIATION: Tin Hut, 8.30pm on Wednesday, it’s the next meeting for all Carnival matters to be discussed and finalised. Please do go along and join the group for a drink and a giggle, have your input and see how much fun can be had in creating the upcoming events. First on the agenda will be the Afternoon Tea and Cabaret for all Ninfield residents over 60 years, to be held in the Memorial Hall on Sunday June 12 as part of the Queen’s official birthday celebrations. All costs for the event are met by the Carnival Association and everyone who attends will have a sumptuous tea with sandwiches and homemade cakes, washed down by more than the odd glass of sherry, teas and coffees, followed by an hour’s Cabaret from musical-comedy Revue company, Deja Revue. Invitations and flyers will be going out and posters will soon be up so keep an eye open.

Hooe Open Group: This group of lovely, lively ladies will next meet on Friday May 13 in Village Hall and as always everyone is invited to join them for tea, a natter and no doubt some very interesting tales. Please call Edna Wallis for more information on 01424 842591.

NINFIELD PARISH COUNCIL: On Wednesday May 18, doors open at 7pm at the Memorial Hall, for the Annual Parish Meeting, along with the AGM. There will be refreshments; sandwiches, snacks, wine and teas/coffees and the chance to hear representatives from many of the societies, clubs and groups give updates on all their respective events and meetings, plus forthcoming ideas for the year ahead. The Parish Councillors will have the latest information on WDC’s proposed housing influx, and there will also be reports from the District and County Councillors. It’s an interesting and lively evening, and a good chance to meet up with people or find out more about what goes on in the village.

AND FINALLY: So it’s now the end of Bank Holiday Monday and the weather was not on our side for the Pram and Kart Races today in Manchester Road, but the spirit of all who turned out for the event was high, the Blacksmiths Inn new landlord and managers, Jack, Neil and Belinda were on board as promised, and enjoying being part of a friendly, vibrant community (their words) and everyone had a great time racing and raising money for the Carnival and local projects. Huge thanks are due to all helpers, once again, these events just wouldn’t happen without all the fantastic support.
