Ninfield and Hooe village voice

I HAVE received information from our PCSO Daryl Holter that a doorbell on the Green area of Ninfield was continuously pressed for some time at approx. 2.40am on June 30. If you know anything of this incident or saw anything suspicious please contact Sussex Police by dialing 101, ext 65261. Other than this there are no other reported crimes in our villages.

After a recent refurbishment, the Blacksmith’s Inn is now fully back in action and serving food again. They now also have a beer garden! All are very welcome.

Hooe Open Group meets every second Friday of the month, with the next being today July 13, 2.30pm at Hooe Villlage Hall. The July meeting is a summer cream tea, consisting of scones and a selection of cakes. The entertainment before the tea is a quiz based on places you may have visited or are part of one’s general knowledge, as always there will be prizes for the winners and losers. There will also be the ever popular “Bring & Buy” table at bargain prices. With an ever growing membership, now over 30; the club is able to extend its program of events, to include visits to interesting places within our area of East Sussex, including lecture tours of historic places such as Michelham Priory, Battle and Pevensey Castle, which are planned to be included in the club’s future program. However during the summer months the club’s activities have been centred on Hooe Village Hall. The August meeting however will be held away from Hooe, at the Bexhill Museum in Egerton Road, Bexhill. The museum has laid on a special presentation of their exceptional costume collection, consisting of both over and undergarments, ranging over a period of some 300 years. After this fascinating and knowledgeable presentation the members will walk to the De La Warr Pavilion, for a cream tea, taken in a reserved section of the first floor lounge. The cost will be just £5. As always this will be a most memorable event so why not invite a friend? September being the commencement of the Autumn season, the club has invited “A Touch of Class” to display their nearly new range of top quality designer garments for every occasion, whether it is for a cruise, a house party or just to impress your friends, when you sweep into the room! They will wonder how you are able to afford such luxury. Ninfield Bowls Club have been battling the summer weather that we are enduring to play a few games of bowls: July 4 they played Winchelsea in the Rother League Match winning 87-45 with the weather just about holding out for them. July 6, 3 of the clubs ladies travelled to Peasmarsh to take part in their Ladies Invitation Day. Unfortunately there were no wins but the ladies had an excellent day and did very well. On July 7 they were back at Peasmarsh with the rain starting as soon as play did! Ninfield lost 62-72, (I blame the weather affecting play!) and July 9 they played Guestling loosing 56-65. At least for this game the sun shone a little! Olympic fever takes a hold in Ninfield this weekend starting with ‘Whiteben’ Disco and Light Show tonight, Friday July 13 in the Marquee on the recreation ground. Doors and bar open at 7.30pm til late. There will also be a BBQ to go along side your pints! During the evening Ninfield’s Got Talent will be held with Ninfield’s ruthless panel of judges (BGT judges will be shown how it’s done!). Adults £2, children £1.

Saturday July 14 then see’s the annual Ninfield Carnival continung the Olympic theme. If you are in the procession, please meet at 10.30am in Lower Street for judging. The procession leaves at 11.45am. There are prizes for adult and junior floats along with fancy dress. Many attractions have been arranged for this years event on the recreation ground to include: ESRM Hunt Parade - meet and greet the hounds, Wacky Carnival Band, Applause: Outdoor Roaming Theatre Co, Galloping Cuckoo’s as well as carousel and other rides, craft tent, face painting, have a go bag pipes, a fun dog show - racing/high jump for all dogs (big and small), bouncy castles, tombola and lots lots more. There is also the Carnival Raffle with cash prizes and even a Balloon ride to win. Tickets cost 50p each. Also this year there is a silent raffle for a corporate day at Brighton & Hove Football Club for any game and dinner for 2. ‘It’s A Knockout‘ is at 3pm with cash prizes of £80, £40 & £20. During the interval (approx. 10pm)there will be a performance by some athletes of the village (have cameras at the ready!). Adults £5, children £2. St Oswald’s Church, Hooe are holding a “Garden Party” on July 14 at 2.00pm through to 4.30pm. Featuring Hooe Silver Band. Stalls :- Cakes, Plants, Raffle, Teddy Bears Picnic and Childrens Activities. Hooe Parish Council are meeting on July 16 at Hooe Village Hall, 7.45pm. All Hooe residents are welcome to attend.

Ninfield Local History Group be meeting on July 19, with a talk on ‘Faces and Memories’ with Jim and Brian, there is no meeting in August and on September 20, ‘What the Census Tells Us’. Everyone is welcome to the meetings. There is a charge of £1 for members and £2 for non-menbers to help cover the cost of refreshments and guest speakers. Annual membership costs £10. Ninfield Bonfire Society’s ‘Ninfield Gig’ is back, July 28 at Elm Cottage, Marlpits Lane. Tickets can be purchased in advance from Ninfield Stores at the following prices: Adults £10 each, Children £5 each, Family (2 adults, 3 children) £25. Children 5 and under go free. Ticket prices at the gate are: Adults £12, children £6 (no family tickets).

Ninfield Methodist Church are holding a Coffee Morning on Saturday August 4, 10.30am - 12 noon. There will also be a bring and buy stall. This is in memory of Mr. Ron Wells who was our village baker for many years. Proceeds raised will be shared between St Michael’s Hospice and The Stroke Association. You can then go along to........

The Arthritis Research Summer Garden Lunch is being held on Saturday August 4 at Elm Cottage, Marlpit Lane, 12.30pm. This is by kind invitation of Pete and Carol. All Welcome by booking with Ann: 892593. Tickets £7.50 each.

The Christian Women’s Fellowship are raising money for Chestnut Tree House Childrens Hospice by holding a coffee morning and/or mini lunch on August 8. This will be held at Little Acre, Church Path, Ninfield, 10.30am - 2pm. There will be a bring and buy, raffle and plants for sale. All contributions would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and don’t forget to take a friend!
