Ninfield has fiery celebration

Ninfield Bonfire Society has gone from strength to strength since forming back in 2009 , placing the village firmly on the Sussex Bonfire map.

This year’s event, on Saturday October 10, sees a move from the recreation ground to a new fire-site.

Bonfire societies from across the area will be taking part.

The Procession will start at 7.15pm from Coombe Lane and will follow a route along Manchester road and into the High Street. It will then go down past the Kings Arms and the roundabout into Bexhill Road before turning right into Lower Street and then left into Molly’s Corner to the field.

The Lighting of the traditionally built bonfire takes place at 8pm with a spectacular fireworks display starting at 8.30pm.

The idea of reviving bonfire in the village came after a conversation in the local pub.

Scott Reid and Ian Cannon thought it would be a great idea to bring Ninfield into the great tradition of Sussex Bonfires.

Ninfield used to host a bonfire many years ago with the last official one celebrating the Queen’s Coronation. There have been many more celebrations on the village recreation ground but nothing in an organised or insured capacity.

New members are always welcome an assistance is needed helping with activities throughout the year, preparing for the big night.

These include helping to set up and organise fund raising events; torch and faggot making; stewarding at the bonfire or walking with a collection bucket.

As a member you would have the opportunity to join the Ninfield procession the as well as others around Sussex that the society attends.

If you are planning on driving to Ninfield for the event please do not park in Coombe Lane after 5pm. Parking in the village is very limited.

Pet and horse owners should be aware there will be loud explosions and bangs between 4pm and 10pm.

In the interests of safety no fireworks other than those used by bonfire societies are to be brought onto the firesite field or along the procession route. For more information on the event and how to join Ninfield Bonfire Society, visit www.ninfieldbonfire.co.uk.
