This was in an effort to deliver a message to drivers that anti social, dangerous or illegal driving in the area will not be tolerated. In total 119 drivers were spotted by the Speed Watch volunteers exceeding the speed limit and a further 12 drivers received a fixed penalty notice or the offer of a speed awareness course.

Last Sunday saw Hooe’s Old Motor Club’s 43rd Show which was a big success. With the new car park and enlarged show ground even more exhibitors attended. The show attracts cars that are not normally seen such as Queen Wilhelmina’s 1926 Rolls Royce, Queen Mary’s Lady in Waiting’s 1905 Renault, A 1911 Rolls Silver Ghost and perhaps the star of the show, the only 1910 International AA Auto Buggy in the world. These were supported by another 300 or so pre 1970 cars all in show room condition plus vintage motorbikes, Classic bicycles displayed by Bexhill’s Classic Bike group preceded the Lady and car competition entertained the numerous spectators. The show ground was ringed by over 40 trade stands including a display by Hooe’s newly formed Youth Club. The organisers expect record profits from the day which at the time of writing has yet to totaled. This money will go to local charities.

Ninfield Bowls Club have a number of matches this last week but I think the late night on the Friday before (watching the Olympic Opening Ceremony) caught up with them!! August 1 they played against Hawkhurst and lost 47-100, August 2 they lost 85-99 to Hailsham, August 4 they played Ringmer loosing 83-102. They did gain a win from the week when they played Herstmonceux on August 5, winning 67-66. During the week 4 members of the club attended the Staplecross Invitation day. Although they didn’t win an enjoyable day was had.

Hooe’s Old Car Club is holding their annual Car Show on the Hooe Recreation Ground (situated between Pevensey and Ninfield on the B2095) on Sunday, August 5 from 11am to 5pm. This show, which is in its 43rd year, is now acclaimed in the National Motoring Press and even in America! There are classes for cars from the turn of last century until 1970. Informed commentary is provided in the main ring on the various vehicles together with the prestigious “lady and car” competition in which ladies dress to match the age and spirit of the car. There will be a plethora of stalls, not all motoring related, refreshments and a musical entertainment provided by The Hooe Silver Band. There will be plenty going on for a great day out. Admission which includes a programme is £5 for adults (Children under 16 free). Car parking in the new improved car park is free. Money raised is distributed amongst local charities. The newly formed Hooe Youth Club will be participating in the activities.

Football training - linked to the Youth Forum, a group of young lads (and hopefully a few girls) from the village are starting football training on Thursday night, 6-7pm. They have one coach, but could do with more help. Ninfield Neighbourhood Watch are looking for volunteers to help man SID, the Speed Indicating Device to help curb speeding through our village. If you would like to help please contact Rod Ffoulkes on 893635.

Hooe Open Group meet today, August 10, 2.30pm at the Bexhill Museum in Egerton Road, Bexhill. The museum will lay on a special presentation of their exceptional costume collection, consisting of both over and undergarments, ranging over a period of some 300 years. After this fascinating and knowledgeable presentation the members will walk to the De La Warr Pavilion, for a cream tea, taken in a reserved section of the first floor lounge. Ninfield Working Mens Club are holding an afternoon strawberry tea on August 14, 2-4pm at NWC. This is in aid of their chosen charity - the young Carers Charity. All are welcome.

Ninfield Horticultural Society’s Summer show is on August 18 in the Memorial Hall at 2.30pm. They invite you to submit your entries for the show (there are classes for young and old alike!). Entry forms can be obtained from Rose, Ivan, Robin or Linda, to be submitted by August 15. There will also be refreshments and a tombola! All are welcome.

Hooe Parish Council are meeting on August 20, 7.45pm in the Village Hall. All Hooe residents are invited to attend.

Daryl Holter, our local PCSO is holding a meet and greet on August 23, 6pm at the Red Lion Public House car park. This is a great opportunity for you to discuss any policing issues that you may have with Daryl.

3 members of Ninfield Flower Group - Christine, Jennifer and Hazel, have been invited to do three floral arrangements for Southwark Cathedral’s Flower Festival which runs August 23- 26. The Cathedral is a short walk from London Bridge station for anyone wishing to go and have a look at our local talent’s work in the splendor of London.

The Carnival Committee are holding their annual pram race on Sunday September 2. It will be held on the Recreation Ground, 11.30am-2pm. There will be a BBQ, bar and refreshments will be available. As usual there will be races for the following categories: junior, senior, adult and mixed. If you are all fired up after the Olympics and think you can beat the great Usain Bolt, then you can test your speed in races against SID. Fancy dress is invited with prizes for entries. Hopefully, there will be more entires this year (maybe you could go as your favourite Olympian of 2012?)! Celebrate the end of the summer holidays in style with lots of racing fun! Ninfield Local History Group are meeting on Thursday September 20. There will be a talk by John Cheshire entitled ‘What the Census Tells Us’. On Thursday October 18 a guest from Bexhill Museum will be talking about The Brassey Family. Everyone is welcome to the meetings. There is a charge of £1 for members and £2 for non-members to help cover the cost of refreshments and guest speakers. Annual membership costs £10.
