Ninfield & Hooe Village Voice - July 25

CARNIVAL 2008: Well the weather was reasonable which encouraged lots of visitors, many with dogs. The winners of the floats were Potmans Lane who won the adult section and the Cubs, Beavers and Scouts the junior section. Well done, there were so many to choose from, the committee thank you all.

Among the many things to see and do were arena events, crockery smashing, tombolas, bric-a-brac on more than one stall, cherries and the main raffle. Linda's face painting was very popular, there were many children with colourful faces and big grins.

In the marquee you could find plants, flowers, books, cards, several handicrafts and the annual floral quiz. This year the Flower Group ladies had created arrangements which depicted certain James Bond films. The winner who got 12 out of the 13 right was Mrs AI-Ansary of Bexhill.

The Horticultural Society were happy with the day. The stall raising money for Breast Cancer were pleased as were the Christian Women's Fellowship who raised 245 for Macmillan Cancer Support the charity they are supporting this year. The Ninfield parish councillors were very satisfied with the number of people who called at their stand. The tea tent and hamburger stall had many satisfied customers. Sincere and grateful thanks are due to the Carnival committee members and to all those who helped with the organisation and running of carnival 2008, their hard work is much appreciated.

In order for there to be a Carnival 2009 offers of help from the community would be most welcome. Some of the people who have devoted so much time for several years would like a break and are hoping other residents might feel that the Carnival is worth maintaining. Lorna is available on 01424 893644 if you feel you would like to know more.

STRAWBERRY TEA AND HYMNS: At least it did not rain but the clouds covered the sun and the breeze blew briskly. Donald accompanied the many voices raised in song and during the interval delicious scones with strawberries and cream were served together with welcome cups of hot tea! Then it was more hymns. Everyone enjoyed the occasion, the vicar, Simon, thanked everyone for their contribution to a pleasant afternoon.

ARC LUNCH: This is planned for tomorrow Saturday, July 26, it may not be too late to buy a ticket just ring 01424 893635 to find out.
