Ninfield & Hooe Village Voice - June 6

VILLAGE EVENT: The driving force behind the Youth Forum, Cllrs Sam Guard and Kaye Crittell, were delighted with the response to last Sunday's village event. Many families took advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the afternoon which included football run by Peter and cricket umpired by Peter A. Linda's artistic face painting transformed some faces altogether and in addition, Chloe and Julia organised the balloon flights.

Kitty ran a popular tuck shop, the barbecue was hugely successful thanks to Robin who was assisted by David. Charlotte and Vicki, two of the original members of the Youth Forum, came along and joined in enthusiastically. Current Youth Forum members ran a stand detailing their next and future projects.

The work behind the scenes carried out by Sam and Kaye requires a great deal of time and effort plus commitment. It is rewarding for them when they have such support which was probably due in part as a response to the flyers distributed to village homes by young members of the Youth Forum who organised the games.

Congratulations to everyone involved in making the event so enjoyable and successful.

RAINFALL: My usual monthly call from Diana with details of the recent rainfall obviously included the thunderstorm and downpour towards the end of May. During May we had 76mm, equal to three inches, of rain, this was quite a lot of rain, similar to last year. The lovely weather we had earlier in the month meant all weeds are flourishing. Diana knows I prefer to call some 'weeds' wild flowers, we agree to disagree!

PARISH LUNCH: There is an open invitation from members of St. Oswald's Church for you to join a parish lunch in Hooe village hall from 11.30am to 1.30pm. Donations towards the cost will be appreciated and everyone is very welcome to attend.

ARTHRITIS Research Campaign: On Wednesday, June 11, there is an opportunity to hear Helen Poole of Sussex Archaeological Society give a talk on Michelham Abbey. This will be held at 7.30pm in the Reading Room, Church Lane in Ninfield and costs 2, which includes coffee and biscuits. Ann, chairman of the local committee, is hoping this will prove to be a successful fund raiser for ARC.

CHRISTIAN Women's fellowship: The next meeting is on Wednesday, June 11 in the Reading Room as usual. If you would like to visit the Fellowship please go along just before 2.30pm when the meeting starts with prayer.

NINFIELD Bowls Club: A call from Brian the captain with details of the successful matches played recently.

On Wednesday, May 28, Ninfield won away to Winchelsea in a Rother League match - Winchelsea gained three points, Ninfield seven. On Saturday, May 31, it was Ladies versus Gents. After a tighter match than last year the Gents won after which 42 sat down to a fish and chip supper. On Sunday, June 1, Ninfield were at home to CIive Vale and won 105-50.

The next match is on Wednesday, June 4, at home to Mayfield. May the weather be very kind and the best team win.

HOOE OPEN GROUP: On Friday, June 13, the ladies of the Hooe Open Group are in Hooe village hall to enjoy their meeting. This month they will be challenged by a musical quiz guaranteed to cause much discussion and laughter. This will be followed by tea and biscuits which allows them to catch up on each other's news. This club is increasing in membership and popularity so if you would like to go along to the hall next Friday in time for a 2.30pm start you will be made most welcome.

FARMERS' MARKET: An early reminder that the next market is on Saturday, June 14, in the Memorial Hall, Bexhill Road, from 10am to 12.30pm - plenty of time to browse, buy good value bargains in meat, homemade cakes and pies. There will also be quality plants and biscuits for the family pet. I am sure the delightful kitchen team will also be there to provide tea, coffee and biscuits. The first market held last month was a success, if this one proves to be as well supported by villagers and others it is possible it will become a regular monthly feature. For more details call Mark on 01424 893712 or 07970 144172.
