Ninfield teenager wins place in British junior eventing team

Will Furlong, 18, from Ninfield has recently earned his first British team call-up for the Hows Racesafe sponsored British Junior Eventing team.

He was selected after a strong season so far plus winning the final selection trial at Aston Le Walls Horse Trials (Northants, August 8). He will ride either bay gelding Livingstone II (10) or his grey mare Pioneer Silvie, (11.)

Will has been selected as part of a squad of six horses and riders who will head to the 2013 FEI Junior European Championships at Haras de Jardy (France, September 12-15) to defend team and individual gold titles as well individual silver. Four will represent Britain as a collective team with the two additional riders competing for individual medals for Britain.

Junior selectors chairman, Ginnie Keen said of the new squad: “I think we’ve an incredible strength in depth of both new faces as well as more experienced riders on this year’s squad. It’s great to be able offer Will a place after his disappointment when his horse picked up a minor injury following last year’s final trial. He has a great record with both horses having won the final selection trial.” Will looks forward to building up his eventing career full-time now he has left school. A keen sportsman, he also enjoys hockey and other team sports.
