There is a lot going on in Ninfield over the Jubilee weekend, which all kicks off on the Friday night (June 1) with Little Big band performing at the Blacksmiths. On Saturday June 2 there is the Tea Party and Cabaret for the over 60’s at the Memorial Hall, doors open at 2pm. In the evening there will be a Jubilee Sparkly Village Party, at the Memorial Hall. 7.30pm - midnight. Adults £3 and children £1. Sunday June 3, there will be Boundary Walks, 2 routes 1 short (5 miles) and 1 long (8 miles). Meet at Sparks Pavilion at 7.45am (to leave at 8am). There will be joining points at Lunsford Cross, and Hope Cottage Farm Shop - Hooe. Permission has been given by Rother District Council Chief Executive, Derek Stevens, for the re-siting of the Boundary Stone at Lunsford Cross to it’s original place. PLEASE NOTE: this is not suitable for dogs, several stiles to climb, stock in fields, some rough uneven ground so PLEASE wear suitable footwear. 9.30am St Mary’s Church are holding a Jubilee Service, a Family Eucharist with 2 baptisms. At 12.15pm Trish Drawbridge will pipe the walkers onto the Rec and perform a selection of Airs relevant to the Union of Britain at the start of HM Queen Elizabeth II’s Big Lunch on the Rec. Bring your own picnic. The Carnival Queen and her Court will be ‘Crowned’ just before the Dance Club display at around 2pm. After the Dance Club, at approx 3pm, the Youth Forum will present the Jubilee Olympics. Teams of 6 people (different ages) to participate in various activities to include a marathon (Ninfield’s version being once around the rec!). Team entry forms are at Ninfield stores or from [email protected]. During the afternoon there will be balloons and music will be provided Live by assorted Jazz musicians. Monday June 4 is an open day from 10am-4pm. There is a Treasure Hunt with 3 places to get forms from – Memorial Hall, Reading Room and The Old Bakery (Manchester Road entrance) 60p per entry form. At each venue there will be an Activity table where the children can make their Lanterns for the evening procession. During the day Raffle Tickets can be purchased form the Memorial Hall, Reading Room, Old Bakery, Tin Hut, Blacksmith’s and the Bowls Club. – 60p a TICKET - £3 a strip to win the chance to light the beacon. There will also be a chance at these venues to submit your bid in the auction for the animal shed donated by Skinners Sheds. At 7pm on the recreation ground, muster for the Lantern Procession – lead by The Bonfire Boyes Drummers. This will end up at the Working Mens Club around 8pm for a Concert and Beacon Lighting – Time Slot designated for Ninfield is 10.26pm!!! And finally, on Tuesday June 5 in Church Woods from 5pm for Picnic, Campfire, Prize giving, Songs and Time Capsule. And not forgetting Hooe over this weekend. Their celebrations are on Sunday June 3 around the area of The Red Lion from 2pm until late. The Parish Council are planting Blue, White and Red bedding in the village and request that you consider doing the same to your own gardens so that the whole village can join in the patriotic celebrations. You are challenged to create a Diamond Jubilee Scarecrow and exhibit it at the front of your home for all to enjoy. This is for fun or you can join in the competition. Anything relating to the Diamon Jubilee theme goes. Entry forms from any parish councillor or the clerk. There are Fancy Dress competitions, Jubilee Hat competitions along with many other activities being planned for the afternoon. Refreshments will be available all day. The Red Lion will be serving lunches, cream teas and a BBQ in the evening. The Parish Council is planning a traditional Children’s tea party, free to all village children. The lasting legacy: The Parish Council will be creating a Diamond Jubilee Wood: You are invited to sponsor a tree. A village tree planting and BBQ will then take place in the autumn. Village Photo Album and Group Photograph: A Village Photo will be taken during the afternoon and many of the photos taken during the celebrations will be collated onto discs which can be purchased at cost. A Snap Shot in Time: An ambitious project designed to capture Hooe in Diamond Jubilee Year. Further details as they emerge. Commemorative Mugs: These will be gifted to Children - on sale to others. This happened at the Silver Jubilee and many of those mugs are still treasured today. They plan to have the children’s name painted on their individual mug. The Hooe Open Group are next meeting on Friday June 8, commencing at 2pm, not 2.30pm. This meeting we will be celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, when the members and guests will mark the occasion, with the cutting of a specially prepared iced cake, which will be cut at 3pm by Rt.Hon Greg Barker MP, who has been invited along with other local dignitaries, including Councillor’s Stuart Earl, Deirdre Williams, Pam Doods andHer Worship the Mayor of Rother, Mrs. Joanne Gadd. Ninfield Local History Group is still busy preparing photo displays for the Jubilee exhibition in the Memorial Hall on Monday June 4. They hope as many people as possible will visit their displays showing life in Ninfield over the past 100 years or so and help them put names to faces in the photographs. For the future, the group is planning to have guest speakers at monthly meetings. We start the ball rolling on June 21 with ‘What Did Your Ancestors Do in The War?’. On July 19, ‘Faces and Memories’ and on September 20, ‘What the Census Tells Us’. Everyone is welcome to the meetings. There is a charge of £1 for members and £2 for non-menbers to help cover the cost of refreshments and guest speakers. Annual membership costs £10. The theme of this years carnival, July 14, is the Olympics. Please get those thinking caps on for your floats. Due to Olympic commitments, the police will be unable to provide any support for the road closure. Therefore, we need at least 15 marshalls to help with the procession. We also would ideally like a vehicle with flashing lights at the front and rear of the procession. Marshalls will be needed between 10.30am-1.30pm. If you could marshall or are willing to provide and drive a suitable vehicle in the procession please contact Lorna 893644. To start the event in the Arena there will be an official Opening Ceremony with the ‘Olympic Flame’ lighting a beacon on the Rec to start the day. –100 PEOPLE ARE NEEDED TO PERFORM AN EASY ROUTINE WITH FLAGS, RIBBONS, HOOPS ETC!!!!! – 3 rehearsals will be required, Sami is organising it… so, call , email (893699 or email [email protected]) and go and join in a one-time only fun event!

‘Ninfield’s Got Talent!’ is back after huge demand following the fantastic success of last years competition. To register your ‘Act’ for this year’s extravaganza on Friday July 13 in the main Marquee, email [email protected] if you wish to submit and entry. Closing date for entries will be over the Jubilee weekend June 2-4. There will be cash prizes for 1st,2nd and 3rd, with a special performance by one of last year’s finalists in the interval. If this was not enough, to end the evening there will be a Band for dancing till Midnight.
