THE OFFICIAL Olympic torch may not be travelling to Peacehaven but the town is still having its own celebration with a torch made by Peacehaven Community School.

Design technology teacher Carl Bowden designed and built the torch, which was unveiled at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee tea in the park event on June 3.

Peacehaven Town Council, in association with the school and the Young Mayor of Peacehaven, will be taking the torch on tour to the three wards of the town during July.

It will visit Epinay Park on Saturday July 7 between 11am and 1pm, Community House in the Meridian Centre on Saturday July 14 between 11am and 1pm and Peacehaven and Telscombe Summer Fair on Saturday July 21 between midday and 5pm.

Cllr Robert Robertson, who organised the construction of the torch, said: “As the official Olympic torch will not be coming through Peacehaven, we thought we would have our own local celebration to mark the Olympics and we are very grateful to Peacehaven Community School for making the torch. We hope many residents and children can come along to one of the events.”
