No short skirts at St Richards

SHORT skirts, make-up and jewellery are NOT appropriate school wear, parents have been warned.

St Richard's Catholic College's July newsletter contains a note for parents in readiness for the new academic year in the autumn.

"We are particularly concerned at the appearance of some girls whose skirts are too short and who attempt to wear make-up and jewellery.

*Girls' skirts should be knee-length and preferably pleated. No tight skirts or front/side slits.

*Girls;' shoes should not have high heels as these are a safety hazard.

*Girls should wear no make-up

*Girls may wear one plain ring and one pair of stud earrings on the earlobe, but no bracelets or 'chokers'

*Colouring or braiding of hair is not permitted.

*All girls should have a school bag suitable for carrying A4 folders, exercise books and text books

"As you know, we believe that uniforms is a sign of order and discipline so we ask you to support us in maintaining the highest of standards.

"Please do not allow your daughter to persuade you that short skirts etc. are acceptable of that hair can be coloured or styled in an inappropriate way!

"if in doubt, please do not hesitate to check with your daughter's Pastoral Leader before the end of term.

"We expect all pupils to return in September smartly and suitably dress and thank you for your cooperation in this."

Boys are not allowed:

*Black trainers - black trainers are for PE lessons only

*Gel-wax

*Jewellery e.g. chains may not be worn

*Coloured t-shirts under shirt

The note adds: "On the whole, there are few complaints with regard to boys' uniform, but they must not allow their standards to slip.

"For all pupils, full uniform should be worn while travelling to and from college."
