Anyone from a junior to senior, team and individual, as well as off-pitch heroes, can be put forward for an award and there are ten categories to choose from as nominations can be made from Monday.

The initiative is managed by Littlehampton Sports Forum and the town council, and is aimed at recognising the achievements and contributions made by local sporting heroes and community champions.

The award categories are sportsperson of the year, young sportsperson of the year, coach of the year, sports team of the year, youth sports team of the year, administrator of the year, contribution to youth sport, contribution to disabled sport and the much coveted mayor’s lifetime contribution to sport.

A new category has also also been introduced for 2013 – the unsung hero award.

The closing date is September 13 and nominations will be considered by a judging panel, with the winners announced at an invitation-only awards ceremony on October 7 at the Coco Lounge.

The ceremony will be hosted by British ski jumping champion and winner of ITV’s diving show ‘Splash’, Eddie ‘the Eagle’ Edwards.
