Norman Baker seeks assurances about Southover Grange in Lewes

MP Norman Baker has called on East Sussex County Council to give a cast-iron commitment to keep Southover Grange in Lewes available for weddings and other ceremonies before it takes over the building from Lewes District Council.

The town’s Lib Dem member has raised the matter with the county council’s Chief Executive, Becky Shaw.

Under the plan agreed between the two councils, the county will transfer The Maltings (the old Public Records Office) to the district in a direct swap for Southover Grange.

While the county has given an indication that it intends to keep existing uses on site, the MP is calling on the district council to insert that requirement in its transfer deal and for the county to give an unequivocal public commitment prior to the deal being signed.
