Open Studios: During June, South East Open Studios are celebrating 20 special years, and last Saturday we had a most enjoyable afternoon visiting 3 venues showing a wide range of skills. Way out of our price range was some wonderful garden sculpture in bronze, but there are always lovely cards!

There will be eight artists exhibiting and demonstrating at Smallhythe Studios on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, including potter Cathy Dalton, printmaker Linda Davidson, photographer K Philip Harrison, sculptor and mixed media artist Joanne Weaver, plein air oil painter Fran Russell and mixed media artists Samm Short, Michele O’Neill and Rowena McWilliams.

This year there are 315 featured artists across the area, many within a short drive, so look out for the paint tube signs along the road. For more information visit www.seos-art.org.

Dance Club: There is Sequence Dancing in the Village Hall on Friday evenings, from 7.30pm. If you would like to find out more, call Tony Pomfret (01797 253287). Music, exercise, fun and good company. You can’t go wrong!

Badminton: We have two badminton clubs in our own Pretious Sports Hall. On Friday, the adult club starts at 8pm, contact Karen Ayling (01797 253375). The Monday club is run by Sue Clark (016797 253428) for one hour from 5.45pm. Both operate as drop-in sessions, so do just turn up and say hello!

A thriving junior club is run by Pete Thomson (07815 84517), with three graded sessions on a Friday evening, starting at 5.30pm.

Dancing in the Reign: This weekend, the focus is on coming together within the village, starting with the Dance in the Village Hall on Saturday evening, when music from the 1950s to the present day will get you on your feet. The cost is just £2.50, payable on the door, and accompanied children are free. There will be a licensed bar, and all you have to do is turn up and have some fun! (7.30-11pm)

Birthday BBQ: Continuing our celebrations, the Parish Council is organising a free barbeque on the Playing Fields on Sunday, or you may prefer to bring your own picnic. As well as tea and birthday cake, there will be a beer tent, and the children can enter the competition for the best crown. The grand raffle will be drawn at 3pm. The whole event runs from 12.30-3.30pm – let’s hope it’s a sunny day, and we can all enjoy this great chance to meet up and celebrate the Queen’s birthday.

Women’s Fellowship: At this month’s meeting, the ladies will learn the secret art of Flower Arranging. Still a mystery to me, but it means that I get great pleasure from the work of others. All welcome in the Church Centre at 2pm on Tuesday.

Coffee Stop: Call into the Church Centre on Wednesday mornings for coffee and a chat at Coffee Stop, between 10 and 12 noon. Lace Group meets in the Jenkins Room at 2pm.

Footpath Walk: The Footpath Group head to Burwash on Wednesday, leaving the surgery car park at 3pm. The 7 mile walk will incorporate a pub supper at Wheel Inn, Burwash Weald. Call Margaret & Neil (01580 765194) for details.

Thursday Seniors: Thursday Seniors’ Club meets every Thursday in Northiam Village Hall from 10.30am until 2.30pm. All pensioners are welcome, and free door to door transport can be arranged for anyone in Northiam, Beckley, Peasmarsh and Broad Oak if you are on the Rye Community Bus route. The cost is £7 and includes welcome tea/coffee, a freshly cooked 2 course meal, extend chair exercises and a talk/entertainment. Midsummer Festival: Northiam Bonfire Society’s third Midsummer Festival on 18th June features live music from The Fabulous Red Diesel, lots of local beer, a great Dog Show, craft, plants etc. And if you fancy a turn at the microphone, contact Geoff Piper and join in the Open Mic ([email protected]).

Chitiwiri: There will be a huge bric-a-brac sale in aid of Chitiwiri also on 18th, so whether you are clearing out or looking for a bargain, make sure you stop off at Forge House.
