Coffee Morning: The monthly village Coffee Morning will be held in the Village Hall today (Friday) 9.30-11.30. Pop in for a chat.

Jumble Sale: The Village Hall Trust will be holding a Jumble Sale on Saturday (28th) at 2.30pm. Donations can be made on the morning of the sale 10-12 or Marie can make arrangements to pick up – call 01797 253264. As well as jumble, there is an extensive collection of books.

Coffee Stop: Call into the Church Centre on Wednesday mornings for coffee and a chat at Coffee Stop, between 10 and 12 noon.

WI: The Women’s Institute meet on Wednesday at 2pm in the Jenkins Room, and this month they welcome back Andy Dinsdale, who will be demonstrating and talking about Juggling. No doubt there will be some ladies willing (and eager!) to have a go too. The competition will be “a childhood game”, so have a look through those old treasures, ladies! New members and visitors always welcome.

Diabetes: The Patient Participation Group for our surgeries will be holding a meeting on Wednesday 1st June in Northiam Village Hall. ‘Diabetes, an epidemic’ is a presentation by the doctors at Northiam and Broad Oak Practices. Diabetes is an increasing concern as more patients are diagnosed, and may be affecting your family or friends. All are very welcome to come along and hear the facts, and have your questions answered. 6.30pm for a 7pm start.

Open Studios: During June, South East Open Studios are celebrating 20 special years. There will be eight artists exhibiting and demonstrating at Smallhythe Studios during this time, including potter Cathy Dalton, printmaker Linda Davidson, photographer K Philip Harrison, sculptor and mixed media artist Joanne Weaver, plein air oil painter Fran Russell and mixed media artists Samm Short, Michele O’Neill and Rowena McWilliams.

Smallhythe Studios will be open every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 3rd June to 19th June 10.30am to 5pm. You can make some pottery with Cathy, have your portrait painted, watch artists at work or have a go yourself!

This year there are 315 featured artists across the area, many within a short drive, so look out for the paint tube signs along the road. For more information visit www.seos-art.org.

Thursday Seniors: Thursday Seniors’ Club meets every Thursday in Northiam Village Hall from 10.30am until 2.30pm. All pensioners are welcome, and free door to door transport can be arranged for anyone in Northiam, Beckley, Peasmarsh and Broad Oak if you are on the Rye Community Bus route. The cost is £7 and includes welcome tea/coffee, a freshly cooked 2 course meal, extend chair exercises and a talk/entertainment. Local History: Roy Chapman, who lived in ‘Rose Cottage’, Northiam after leaving Dr. Barnardo’s Hawkhurst; has now completed a book of his life and times in the village in the late 1940’s through time. The book is titled One Last Chance and is available from Roy: 01424 870520.

Coming Soon: Everyone should have received a leaflet through their door with details of the great events in store in June for everyone to enjoy! To celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, there will be a dance in the Village Hall on Saturday 11th June, followed by a free barbeque on the Playing Fields on 12th. The next weekend Northiam Bonfire Society hold the Midsummer Festival with live music from the fabulous Red Deisel, lots of local beer, a great Dog Show etc. And don’t forget the bric-a-brac sale in aid of Chitiwiri at Forge House, also on 18th. There’s a really interesting article in this month’s Parish Magazine with an update on all the great work being done in Chitiwiri.
