Midsummer Festival: What a wonderful weekend! It was good to see so many of you at the Festival, and I think we all had a good time with some excellent music (the drumming got us going), interesting stalls, wonderful dog show (well done to Monika for learning on the hoof) and seriously good burgers and beer. How we managed to avoid the rain, I shall never know, but weren’t we lucky? Thanks to everyone for taking part and supporting Northiam Bonfire!

Horticultural Society: This evening, celebrate summer with the Horticultural Society’s Summer Social. The schedule is accessibly short – your favourite flower (up to 3 cut stems of the same type), interesting foliage (up to 3 cut stems of the same type, or different) and your favourite photograph. I’m sure we can all manage at least one of those!

Entries should be taken to the Village Hall between 7 and 7.30pm (Friday 26th). Along with wine and nibbles, there will be two quizzes and a plant identifying competition, followed by an informal question and answer session with Fergus, Tony and two Dixter students, before the prizes are awarded, and the evening ends about 9.30pm.

Everyone is very welcome, and entry is free.

National Trust: The Rye and District Association of the National Trust invite you to Brian Freeland’s very personal biography of George Bernard Shaw, Playing the Clown, in The Barn Theatre, Smallhythe Place at 6.30 pm on Saturday 27th June. Tickets are £10 from Smallhythe 01580 762334. The garden will be open from 5pm to enjoy a picnic before the performance.

Footpath Walk: Join the Footpath Group on Sunday, meeting in the surgery car park at 1.30pm for a 5 mile Wander from Wittersham church.

Coffee Stop: Pop into the Church Centre on Wednesday mornings to catch up with the news. Coffee Stop is open from 10-12.

Coming Soon: There’s a lot happening in the next month, so don’t go anywhere else! South Grange, the home of Linda and Mike Belton, on Quickbourne Lane, will be open on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 23rd July for charity. A real treat will be a production of Spem in Alium – a 40 part motet written by Thomas Tallis for Queen Elizabeth I’s birthday. Tickets are available from Bumble Standen - 01797 260868 – and are £10 for the concert, or £20 for the concert and buffet supper, and it will be on Sunday 26th July at 5pm.

Summer Fairs: Beckley School’s Fete will be on Saturday 4th July 12-3. Northiam Primary School’s Summer Fete will be on Saturday 18th July 11-2, and Northiam Village Hall Trust’s traditional Village Fair and Boot Fair will be held on the Playing Fields on Saturday 1st August.
