Open Studios: South East Open Studios runs for the first 2 weeks of June each year, and offers a glimpse into the creative processes of a range of artists and makers. The White House Studio in Dixter Road will be open daily from today (Friday) 10-5.30pm, apart from Mondays. Over 300 artists will be participating across Kent and East Sussex, so pick up a brochure and have day out. www.seos-art.org.

Terry’s paintings are detailed studies in oil of rural subjects, and he will be exhibiting originals, limited edition prints and cards, and this year there will be a Bargain Board of half price originals and prints.

Chitiwiri: On Saturday, there will be a Garage Sale at Forge House (formerly the Post Office), in aid of Chitiwiri. Pop along any time during the day to bag yourself a bargain. I’m sure that if you have any good quality bric-a-brac to donate to the cause it will be gratefully added to the bounty on offer.

Garden Safari: Last Saturday, Terry and I had great pleasure visiting the gardens all ready to open on Sunday. They were all looking splendid, and we had very interesting chats with their creators. Then Sunday struck, with horrible weather, and we had to take the decision to cancel the Safari (if only to protect grass paths etc).

Amazingly, we still have five gardens which will be able to open this Sunday (7th) from 11am, and perhaps all that intensive watering will make them even more bountiful! Please do support our valiant hosts – the Safari starts at Goddens Gill Green, heading in two directions, and programmes are £5. No pressure, but one of the gardens may have to close early, so don’t leave it too late! Relaxing teas will be on sale back at Goddens Nook, and we’re hoping we won’t need protection from the rain this week.

Bowls Club: The Bowls Club have had a busy and successful start to the season and welcome anyone at their matches, or practice nights, which are Mondays from 5.30pm – you might want to join in.

Womens’ Fellowship: At Womens’ Fellowship, in the Church Centre at 2pm on Tuesday, Jean and Geoff Brown will be sharing an account of their visit to Iceland in their Golden Year. Visitors are always very welcome, so do pop in.

Maj Gen Johnston: The Johnston family have contacted Mervyn to thank everyone who took part in the act of commemoration to honour their father. They are amazed at the feeling of gratitude shown by the village and much appreciated Peter Fields’ music.
